In partnership with Sea to Cedar and Nawalakw Healing Society we are delivering two programs during the summer of 2019.

Youth Leadership Paddling Program- YLPP 2019 July 1-13, 2019

The Youth Leadership Paddle Program (YLPP) is a Sea to Cedar program. It is in its third year and has been very well received in the Musgamagw Dzawada̱’enux̱w communities. The participants of YLPP spend two days in Gwayasdams taking a Paddle Canada certified course before undertaking a 7 night expedition from Gwaysdams to Hada (Bond Sound). This program has a strong focus on leadership and team building. A̱ka̱la has partnered with Sea to Cedar to help deliver the cultural and wellness portion of the program.

T̕axila, Creating a Path August 19-28, 2019

T̕axila is a 10-day trail building program that will bring Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw youth into Hada (Bond Sound) to build a section of trail. The importance of this trail is found within the relationship between the Dzawada̱’enux̱w and the Ḵwikwa̱sutinux̱. These two sister tribes have been connected through shared territory, shared resources, shared families, and shared creation stories. The trail has been strategically placed to reduce the distance between Kingcome and Gilford village. It will increase the opportunities for the communities to come together. Eight youth will travel into Hada and stay there for the duration of the workshop. During this time they will work with a trail facilitator to build the trail, and engage in immersive kwakwala language sessions with Musgamagw Dzawada̱’enux̱w bakwamkala teacher.

Hada Celebration August 28, 2019

To honour the participants in both programs we are organizing a day trip for family and community members to come to Hada to celebrate the accomplishments of the youth.
