1. The importance of SPIRITUALITY– the Dzawada’enuxw First Nation acknowledges the existence of a higher power. Many of the ceremonies practiced by the Dzawada’enuxw First Nation occur in the spiritual and supernatural world. The values that manifest within the Dzawada’enuxw people are faith, love, hope, reverence and prayerfulness. Spirituality is the basis for the following three traditional laws and values.
  2. The importance of RESPECT for all of creation– the Dzawada’enuxw First believes in respecting all of creation and understands their interdependence of all of creation. This truth drives the Dzawada’enuxw in their stewardship over the land and waters. Values that emerge are using what has been given to them in moderation. Caring for and protecting what is keeping the Dzawada’enuxw people alive, the mountains, the trees, the animal kingdom… is essential to their belief system.
  3. The importance of RELATIONSHIPS– the Dzawada’enuxw First Nation recognizes that all of creation can live without them, but they cannot live without all of creation. The values that stem from this are their connectedness to, and understanding of all who walk this earth. One person is only a small speck in the world of creation.
  4. The importance of SELF- the Dzawada’enuxw First Nation believes that to give of self is their greatest duty, but one must be strong of mind, spirit and body to be in service to their people. One cannot give what they do not have. This fosters values of self-esteem and self-determination within the Dzawada’enuxw peoples.
