Length: 8-days Theme: Radical Relationality
Trip: Gwayasdams to Ukwanalis Dates: May 8 – 15th, 2023
The Canoe Journey* uplifts women and gender diverse people in our Nations. Traditionally all genders and roles were valued equally in our community. Patriarchal and colonial values and practices were forced on our Nation which diminished the roles of women and gender diverse people in our societies. We want to honor our own history by creating space for women and gender diverse folks to sit in their power and witness each other on our ancestral territories. On this 8-day expedition, connecting two ancestral villages, the group will share stories about Musgamakw Dzawada̱’enux̱w women and gender diverse people of the past, present and future. We will engage in deep discussion about our interdependency with all living things. The expedition will be supported by a motorboat to allow people of all ages and mobility to participate. Participants will be given the option to paddle the entire trip, join on the motorboat or a mix of both.
The name of the program will be determined by the group.
